Other projects.

While the design of watches and related brand design projects for the Swiss watch industry is the primary focus of my work as a freelance designer, I bring a breadth of experience and capabilities in other sectors. My experience includes an ongoing role leading a range of design and venturing projects at Arup.

Freelance product design, with a focus on luxury goods.

While my expertise stems from my work as a freelance watch designer, I also provide freelance design services to a range of luxury product companies. Some of the areas in which I provide design expertise includes jewellery, writing instruments, clocks, wearables, retail interiors, furniture, bicycles, and medical / industrial products.

Supporting start-ups in the luxury space.

I have experience in advising and supporting early-stage founders in the design side of creating new luxury brands, particularly with watches, jewellery, and related industries where an understanding of mechanical complexity and a sensitivity to materials and manufacturing techniques is essential.

I can provide the research, shaping, and design skills required to build a strong brand identity, as well as the complete design services required to create and develop initial products or collections for new luxury brands. Once products are developed, I can also design the associated packaging and other POS materials that are required to launch the brand.

Mogu Foresta

Arup and Italian biodesign firm, Mogu, have launched one of the world’s first mycelium acoustic panel systems, providing companies with a more sustainable option for reconfiguring their workspaces for the post-pandemic world. As businesses prepare for employees to return to in-person working, the Foresta system can help create high quality, creative working spaces. With many firms adopting a hybrid approach to working, splitting time between home and the workplace, office spaces need to be reconfigured to match the move to activity-based work, creating zones suited for creative co-working.

Our collaboration with Mogu in the development of Foresta is representative of opportunities throughout our built environment to increase the sustainability of the products we use, by adopting bio-composites and other natural materials. Combining established technical expertise with new material technologies gave our team the confidence to design and engineer a solution that is appropriate for a healthy return to our spaces in a post-pandemic world.

At Arup.

As an Arup Associate, I apply design thinking to multi-disciplinary projects and ventures internationally, both physical and digital. My work covers all stages of the design process from engaging stakeholders and developing project strategy through to design and commercialisation, drawing value from Arup’s decades of technical and sector expertise.

I consult to start-ups and established companies on the development of their products, services and experiences, linking this work to their overall business strategies. We do this through a multi-disciplinary team of Experience, Service, Industrial and Product Design.

I work with leadership in the firm to commercialise the ideas of Arup staff, as well as to enable projects between Arup and the wider start-up ecosystem to solve some of the built environment’s most pressing challenges.

I lead Arup’s UKIMEA region Ventures portfolio, appraising, funding, and developing commercial innovations, and I lead the region’s relationship strategy with relevant external partners including incubators/accelerators, startups, and universities leading innovation in the built environment.
